@reapersaurus
you do know that black lotus is only rated .1 more than this card?
And a 4.6 IS close to 5 stars
so you really do not know what your talking about

I hate this card. It is so broken (like all the other Storm cards) but as a Type 1 player, you have to respect the threat it represents.

@reanimatesucks: Back when this was around (and in Vintage) there were tons ridiculous of mana ramping things, such as Black Lotus, the Moxes, and Dark Ritual. There are also a whole bunch of free spells like Ornithopter. What they would do is play free stuff and mana ramping to get out huge amounts of spells, then play this and do obscene amounts of damage on the first turn. Wash, rinse, and repeat. Or, if you wanna be fancy, save a Yawgmoth's Will and do it all again! If you had in your first hand a swamp, two Dark Rituals, Yawgmoth's Will, and two Ornithopters, you cast swamp, two Dark Rituals, two Ornithopters (or another Dark Ritual or one mana spell),then Yawgmoth's Will, then this, which is 10 damage, and you gain ten life. Do it again from the y... (see all)

@shocker300 - there's a reason why this isn't rated near 5 :
because it does very little on its own.
4 mana for some life swing doesn't cut it.
It requires many other cards in combination to be effective, unlike the true 5-star cards in Magic, like Ancestral Recall, Time Walk, Black Lotus, etc.

you've got to play around it. I never liked storm because you have to make a storm deck to use it. Except Dragonstorm.

Im not sure why this isnt a 5/5 from all votes. That really shows the lack of experiance in players on this site. Im 23 and I even know about this card. Guys, this card is the core of 1 of the fastest, meaneast decks out there.
100% 1 turn win.
Im not going to explain details because the skill level of the deck im talking about is very high. But some of you mtg vets out there know exactly what im talking about.

@Superllama
Those things might happen in Vintage, but never anywhere else. The only card you mentioned that ever shared standard with Tendrils of Agony is Ornithopter. Even Dark Ritual was last printed four years before Tendrils.
Also, you would need an absurdly perfect draw to pull off a win the way you describe.
Realistically, Tendrils of Agony is a finisher in a U/B control deck. Control the board until you can storm up enough for a kill (perhaps using Mind's Desire?).

shocker300 everyone knows about the first turn win combos with this and Yawgmoth's Will but they are all a millon card combos their are plenty of first turn win combos out their and a lot of them seem easyer to pull of the the ones with Yawgmoth's Will.

This a very powerful card !!! I've played it in a deck wich was only built around it. with dark ritual-culling the weak-yawgmoths will and Creature cards like ornithopther/phyrexian walker etc. you may be able to kill with tendrils of agony in your first turn without a black lotus or a mox...
