That low toughness is what really hurts him. A 6-drop, especially one meant to just be a big lugnut, shouldn't be susceptible to lightning bolt.

To me this card seems a bit weird, To me the main advantage of colorless cards is you can (In theory at least) run them in any deck, But this card is less powerful in any deck but a green deck, In say mono black this card is just a 5/3 for 6cmc, But if you use green he can also get trample, To my mind at least he should be a green card.
(Please note that I am not saying this card is good or bad, I'm just voicing an opinion about card design.)

That's basically his deal, yes. It's a very 'made for limited' kind of card that can be picked by anyone even if they're not in green but really need more creatures - but you get rewarded a little more for being 'on color' for him.
