Like a million other cards, it works OK with Sanguine Bond. Toss in two Crimson Kobolds and Cloudstone Curio, and you win.

used this in my Enduring Reneal /Field of Soulsdeck
nothing like 100 2/2 soul tokens to make your opponents smile!(doesn't hurt to get a hundred life or so in the process)

Considering everything you play except lands are spells. This card will gain you 1 life everytime you play anything. that's 1-5 life a turn. Based solely on mana and cards available to be played. Consider adding this Exquisite Blood with it, and sanguine bond.

This can make Ageless Entity, Ajani's Pridemate or Voracious Wurm potentially huge. Archangel of Thune can make this into a team boost, even. A fun card that I wouldn't mind seeing come back someday.
