Great fun in EDH/multiplayer. Put it on an opponent's creature, and convince them to attack someone else with it, after damage is done finish the creature off.

Wow, this seems way underrated. You can use it either as (somewhat pricey) removal, or on a guy with first strike or evasion to pump him up. Heck, even using it on an opponent's critter and leaving red open is a pretty good disincentive for them to try anything. Usefulness in multiple situations makes it worth 3.5/5 for me.

My only problem with this card is that, as far as pumping creatures, Firebreathing is strictly better can Crown of Flames is better than that.

If nothing else, it suits red's all-out offense flavor.

I think of this card as a variable strength Immolation - it is useful for killing regenerators, as well as pumping up Horned Turtle style creatures which could use a bit of power for their toughness. Its possible later-game uses are even hinted in The Sparkler, the Stronghold precon which featured Reins of Power. Stealing an opponents' creature, putting this on it, and then attacking for a ton of pumped damage (before killing it using the ability after combat) is just meanspirited.

"Do use this card in limited. It kills your opponents creatures, whether by pump or enchanting their creatures with it."
