OK, I removed my original comment because I've been informed that the term "fugue" isn't just a musical one - it can also refer to a rare psychological disorder where a person suffers episodes of temporary amnesia. Guess I should'a known, right? My sincere apologies, I assumed we were talking about the much more well known meaning of "fugue", which is a musical piece involving 3 or more melodies in counterpoint, usually performed on organ or harpsichord, associated with the Baroque period of musical history.

Now Kirbster, don't arrogantly tell me to "go to school" like a snotty 12-year old. I've studied fugues! I've played them too. Have you? All the fugues I've ever seen were instrumental and involved at least 3 interacting melodies. Many fugues are written for organ, which allows for playing 4 voices simultaneously with help of the footpedals. And yes, I've done that too. You're misconception of a fugue being "2 or more people singing" sounds like you've got fugues confused with c... (see all)

Despite Dr. Jack's insistence, going so far as to post an identical comment on both versions of a card, the term "Fugue" does not refer exclusively to a type of musical piece. It can also refer to a psychological disorder characterized by strong amnesia - ergo, the card makes your opponent "forget stuff", thus discarding cards. This actually fits the form and function of the card quite well.

...also considering a musical Fugue involves two or more people singing, I really don't think some goof sitting at an organ portrays this very well either. Go back to school, Doc.

Ah. I incorrectly extrapolated the meaning of the word "fugue" from its similarity to the word "fog". I'm no musical student.

The obvious comparison is Mind Sludge. Mind Sludge is only effective in mono black, while this card can be played in a 3, 4, or 5 color deck and still be effective.
Oddly enough, Mind Sludge has a more flexible cost.
