I dunno why Wizards bothered printing nonbasic lands that are better than the standard basic lands in every possible way in the very first set. Baffling.

@Verdande - Back then, they had no idea how big the game would become. Richard Garfield has said that he built the original sets (Alpha, Beta, etc) assuming that nobody would open more than a dozen or so packs. Essentially, the game was designed for sealed, not constructed (or at least not constructed as we know it today, where everyone has four of everything).
That's why those early sets had huge power level disparities at different rarities, because if you only have a dozen or so rares, it doesn't matter if one of them is completely busted. When someone in R&D asked, "Well, what if people are buying so many packs that they get enough of these cards to break the game?" Richard responded, "That could be a problem, but it would be a very good problem to have."
