When goblins use blue mana, things don't always turn out as they should.
At least this one is a hard counter.

Not many cards have had their card type erata'd. Ok, all interupts, but apart from them, it's what, 5 or less.

Well it's not strictly worse than cancel. Say your opponent played Curse of Echoes on you. If you play a cancel to counter one of his spells, he can use the curse of echo copy to play a cancel on your cancel. If you play a mystic denial, that won't work.

Don't forget that this is from Portal. There weren't any instants, but a lot of the sorceries were cast at instant speed.
