This was especially funny for my playgroup and I because in our more casual games I've been known to do this with legal creatures.

So what is 'right away'? Before state-based actions are next checked? (I don't get the point of Unhinged! :P (Actually I do, but I think using them to stretch the rules past their limit and getting them back all saggy and with stretch marks everywhere is a fun way to play with them too :P))

my favorate way to play him is to tap the land but not actualy spend the mana on playing him. you don't have to tell your oponit evrything you do, so after sutible time hase pased sense you "played" it to not be imedeatly. just spend the mana on your other spells.

Or you can just use Ashnod's coupon

actually I believe that if you put it into play under another card it's not in play because the rules state that all players must be able to see all the cards on your battlefield and be able to tell if they are tapped.
however I'm pretty sure you could get away with casting him for 2 mana....

im imagining the look on an opponents face when he sees that but the best part is the look on his face when you guys come out from underneath the table and he sees a huge pile of cheaty faces taking up half the table. Oh, wait, when he looks at you just give him an innocent look and say "What?". I... I cant stop laughing. xD
