The akki seemed to have a bit of a land-hate flavour given to them - see this, Akki Avalanchers, Akki Raider and the ever-cool Zo-Zu the Punisher. I wonder if this is intended to reflect something about the actual Japanese akki mythology?

Flavour aside, this is quite similar to Tremble - comparing the two, the upside to this guy is that he could attack for you a couple of times, but the downside is that you might not be able to pop him when you really want to. He makes for an interesting in-block combo with the aforementioned Raider, and while this amounts to an underwhelming +2/+0 ueot in a duel, it could get much stronger in a multiplayer situation.

Land destruction may not win you any friends, but this guy is amazing for that type of deck. You can wipe them out on purpose to blast your opponents mana curve, and at 2CC they are perfect for hamstringing someone early.

3.5/5

On condition your opponent goes first:

Turn 1: Black lotus, this, goblin grenade.

Trust me, they will get really annoyed. It's funny.

Excellent card for Red Deck Wins and Land Destruction type decks. It forces your opponents to make difficult decisions right from the get-go. Also note the subtle difference between a card that says "When ~this~ is put in the graveyard, ..." and "Sacrifice ~this~: ..." -- This card stayed good even after the removal of stacked combat damage. Might have even been playable in Extended if Extended had stayed "big".

I wouldn't much trouble with this card considering every player has to sacrifice. This lends towards more of a kamakazi style of play.
