Darkness can't stop a direct hit like a lightning bolt or drain life.

Interesting card, great flavor, however would you sac a creature to save yourself???

It can't save yourself directly... Terrible card, as it's just small lifegain or larger life gain that requires sacrificing a creature. Pretty much never worth the card disadvantage. For comparison, Darkness costs one less, can prevent the damage if it's lethal, and doesn't hit your own creature. The only time I might want to play this is with Sanguine Bond, but it's lame even then.

This isn't very solemn.

The oracle errata completely ruins the flavour. Cool opponents will let you use it the way it was intended. "Ha! That wasn't actually me you were attacking this whole turn. It was my...Drudge Skeletons!" An OK card normally, though it doesn't look like it can save you from overkill the way it used to. Magnificent when allowed to take effect retroactively. 5/5
