The instant speed is the only advantage Mortify has over Vindicate. The surprise factor and saving mana for your own turn are both good but if you want cards like Mortify in your deck you obviously want something dead. On that department, Vindicate is far stronger.

Just to clear this up... Vindicate is MUCH better, maybe the best. However, this is extended-legal. Unmake is more impressive against creatures, but if you don't want to take up deck space with enchantment destruction and need to have some, this is pretty convenient. I'd probably go 1/2 unmake, 1/2 mortify, with the other half sideboarded. It depends on the deck.

I find it strange that this doesn't prevent regeneration, unlike Putrefy.

Mortify is a fine card, but is a little overshadowed by Unmake on one side and Vindicate on the other. Any time those two options are competing for a slot, I don't really see Mortify getting a look in. Sadly.

Agreed a good card, but if you're running Black/ White Unmake is undoubtedly a better option. I don't always see Vindicate getting the spot over Mortify, but I suppose it depends on who you're versing.

@mdakw576, yes, that is odd. Although Magic doesn't currently have anything that regenerates enchantments, so it might have been more odd to have enchantment destruction that prevents regeneration. And green has 'prevent regeneration' effects (Whippoorwill, Oxidize), so it's more 'sellable' in that color then in white.

Nice card. I like the art a nod towards terror.

Cool ideas. Rakdos has Wrecking Ball (creature/land), while Gruul has Wreak Havoc (Artifact/Land). Dimir also has Consult the Necrosages, which is their modal spell.
This is how I'd do it:
Ravnica:
U/B: Vilify: Counter target non-creature spell, or destroy target creature.
W/G: Sanctify: Destroy target enchantment or artifact. (Or Exile, as Disenchant is strictly better)
W/R: Purify: Destroy target enchantment or destroy target land. Can't be countered.
B/G: Putrify, as written
Guildpact:
R/G: Petrify (aka Wreak Havoc): Artifact or Land, can't be countered.
B/W: Mortify, as written.
U/R: Falsify: Counter target non-creature spell, or destroy target artifact. Can't be countered.
Dissension:
B/R: Vitrify (as Wrecking Ball), can't be regenerated.
U/W: Rectify: Counter target non-creature spell or destroy target enchantment.
U/G: Liquefy: Counter target creature or artifact spell.
