incredibly useful, annoying mana cost...

Very powerfull counter indeed. As noted - on stack, only uncounterable and spilt second cards can dodge this.

Oh what could've been. 0/0 Flash would have not only been able to toy around with the handy dandy Graft mechanic, but all sorts of instant speed reanimation effects would suddenly become counterspells. Even if it removed the "Activated Abilities" clause.

Counters Birthing Pod, Anihillator, Storm, Iona (because you stop them from choosing a color), Kiki-Jiki, Planeswalker abilities (cast on a Jace in crash mode and laugh), and pretty much everything else relevent in any format. A powerhouse, especially since most people forget this card exists due to its odd color combination. Used properly, this card will hose a deck for 3 simple mana. 5/5 stars, and I wish I could give it a 6th.

Probably too much to ask for a reprint in Gatecrash. I think the best we can hope for is either is something similar the way Call of the Conclave imitates Watchwolf. I'd be happy to see a variation of this on the new Simic Charm.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure this counters Emrakul, The Aeons Torn...
...
...'s "When you cast..." ability. It's a triggered ability going on the stack, and not Emrakul itself. (and of course any of the "when you cast..." abilities of cards.)

90% it is a counterspell that forces you to be careful what you tap.
1% In a Bant or Simic deck, the {g} won't let you cast it.
9% It is unexpected, shocking, game-changing and awesome.
