I once had the privilege of using a Desert with two Furnace of Raths in play. Something about a land being capable of gunning down a Serra Angel is very... empowering.

This land ruled Legacy and Vintage. Having this meant an early-game stalemate. When you have two or more of these out, you never tapped them for mana; instead, you had board control. I understand that new players won't find this too great a card, but this used to stop creature decks dead in its tracks.

I never quite got how this would have been a basic land. Were they planning something like snow lands or maybe a sixth color? Would it be as printed but you could have any number of them in a deck? Was the 4-of limit even in place back then?
Nice utility land anyway.

Still a pretty useful card for a lot of decks. And of course in the days before the 4-card rule...

Excellent Card for mono blue control, where it can kill small creatures for no card investment, and can make attacking near impossible in multiples.

Cosidering all the cards that do stuff with deserts (desertwalk etc.) you'd think there'd be more than, well, maybe ONE CARD with the desert creature type.

I originally started out with a pointless bad goblin deck. After facing this card in pretty much every deck, I thought it might be a good idea to put stone rain in. It all went downhill from there.

How can they bring desert into modern without bringing in its historic hosers? Without desert nomad and camel desert combo decks will run amok and destroy the format!

Card is amazing. It will fend off a bunch of attackers by itself. While back in standard, i was using it in every deck.
