Wait, this thing has always had three feet...and I never noticed until now.

Beckon Apparition seems better though.

The Judgment version's flavor text suggests that the hawk had a common ancestor with the aven race. Maybe the weird art is supposed to explain how the avens have arms.

Not bad. An iconic card in the vein of Raging Goblin, Typhoid Rats, Llanowar Elves, and Merfolk Spy. Those are the most common, color pie-centric one-drops across the Multiverse. And by iconic I mean reprint-worthy.

I just noticed the old version had three legs also. That's pretty weird.

yea, it has four feet. always has, for some reason; I don't know why though, maybe R&D thought it would make it look less like a generic bird and more "magical"?

If you look at the art closely, you can see it has four feet, not three. The front two are smaller and are close together, so it looks like only three. I agree with Templar314, I think this is supposed to be some sort of primitive ancestor of the aven.

No it has four "talons". If you look carefully at the back talon, you can see the stalk of another "foot".

Power creep even affects little guys like this. Judge's Familiar now pretty much outclasses Suntail Hawk, which is a shame because he's such a good one-drop. Ah well. 4.5/5

10th edition looks more like a deformed owl than a hawk. But classic card anyway
