Strawhat, you forget that this is a druid, while the Orochi Leafcaller is a shaman...though they accomplish the same roles in decks of those tribes, they are, in fact, of those tribes (and two other, more relevant ones, as well :P).

great for any multicolored deck using green, i prefer this art to the mirrodin art

Compared to Prismatic Omen:

Pros: Can attack
Does not make landwalk devestating against yourself
Its an Elf

Cons: Easier to kill
does not help domain
does not make the rare lands from Zendikar function

More susceptible to removal than Prismatic Omen, however Joiner Adept makes your lands less vulnerable to land destruction that targets a specific type of basic land, such as Boil or Acid Rain. On the other hand, Prismatic Omen is infinitely more useful in a Coalition Victory deck. Lastly, in the debate between this and Orochi Leafcaller they both have their uses. In a five-colour deck though i would use this, since its lets you filter any colour of mana essentially (if you have an island + forest in play with Joiner, you have 2 of any colour, with Orochi you only have {U} and one of any colour at your disposal.)

Perhaps Master of Etherium was trying to get at my own thoughts on Joiner Adept vs. Orochi Leafcaller: That you may only have a few green sources (by turn 2, maybe only 1) when you play either of the creatures. With Orochi you can tap your forests for any mana, but your mountains, plains, islands, swamps, and nonbasic lands won't produce anything other than what's written on the card once you've tapped out your limited number of forests. With Joiner Adept, however, you don't even need a forest if you can get her into play with other reasons, and even if you have few or no forests, any of your lands (including Darksteel Citadel) can suddenly produce anything you want.

So yes, they are quite comparable, but Joiner Adept is a rare while Orochi Leafcaller is not for a reason: greater playability.

Joiner Adept indeed has some very useful combos if you're running more than just green in your deck.

eg:
Arbor Elf + Freed from the Real & Forest + Fertile Ground = Infinite green mana
Using above combo with joiner adept => Infinite any color mana
(Using Orochi leafcaller is also get you the same result, but Joiner adept seems more suited as she shares both types with arbor elf as well)

Joiner Adept + gilt-leaf archdruid + atleast 5 other druids = Total land domination with instant mana fix with every land that comes under your control
(This combo shows a strong distinction between Joiner Adept and Orochi Leafcaller)

While it's true that orochi leafcaller only allows you to filter green mana sources into other colors, so the joiner adept is more flexible with respect to any lands that do not produce green (especially those that have some other effect that does not produce mana at all), joiner adept has no effect on non-land sources of mana, while orochi leafcaller will happily filter any green mana from llanowar elves, elvish archdruids, etc. I'd say that their mana abilities are really pretty comparable, but, in the greater scheme of things, 2/1 > 1/1 and elves > snakes, so the joiner adept is worth the 1 mana extra.

Note, however, that Sachi, Daughter of Seshiro works really well with Orochi leafcaller, it pumps Orochi's toughness to 2 and allows Orochi to tap for GG which Orochi can then filter to any other color. Sachi does nothing for joiner adept, and joiner adept can't even filter the mana Sachi can produce by tapping herself. On the other hand, there are TONS of elv... (see all)

This is an awesome card. Makes playing 5 colour decks a breeze. And its a 2/1 so it can attack.
