In these comments, people who have never played a limited format before.
These creatures fill an important role in games where your card pool is purposefully small. Wizards understands that no constructed player wants anything to do with this, but having things like this makes it much simpler to determine the relative values of cards in a draft.

Blue really gets the shaft on creature cards. I mean, Aven Squire is from the same set and it's infinitely better, even Akrasan Squire is better than this creature and it only costs White!

boo hoo, it doesn't have double strike, flying and lifelink. It's a cheap filler creature, something that you don't mind sacking or tossing in front of a huge monstrosity.
