I've started playing a vampire deck, and I must say that Tendrils seems better in 9 out of 10 cases than other 'instant kill' cards like Hideous End and Feast of Blood. True, the other two are cheaper, but with the length of games a vampire deck has almost preventing a player from getting out any creatures with massive toughness, you'll generally have enough swamps to instant kill anything. Add to that a much higher potential health gain, and it makes it quite appealing.

Of course, it does have its cons compared to those cards too - the cost, as well as being counterable by non-combat damage prevention spells, but overall this card is fantastic for a common.

This and Sanguine Bond in a mono-Black deck are brutal in the late game, especially in casual (or against new players) where you can have like 15 Swamps out. Best part is that it only costs four mana, yet has the same effect on creatures as playing Consume Spirit and using all of your mana on it.

Rating: 4/5.

Not 5/5 because it needs to be played in mono black and have lands that have the subtype Swamp in order to reap the rewards of this card

I'll always remember this card because my friend's MBC deck that used to dominate our metagame when we all first started playing MTG.

I like the Time Spiral art over the other ones.

Excellent when you're play Flesh Reaver/Harvester type of Suicide-Black. This is precisely the trick that wins games.

This spell is often played. It is not fun to bear the brunt of it, especially when it's used on a creature you've been diligently gathering land for to summon. It's a good card, especially for a vampire deck that combos it with Lifelink, but it's not fun to be up against it.

A nice way to shutdown creatures and gain life while doing it.

Yes I must agree with socialexperiment. This card is almost stricly better than consume spirit. Because you can only spend black on consume spirit's X, and there is a black in its cost, you can only do 1 less than total swamps damage maximum, not to mention tapping out. Tendrils is much better as creature removal as well as lifegain, because you always gain as much as total swamps regardless, where your lifegain is limited by cost with consume spirit. This brings us to the only advantage of consume spirit. It can target a player. But who plays a black version of blaze, with an extra mana in the cost, that they can only use black mana for? No disrespect, but that would be noobs.

This spell is invaluable for any MBC deck. I'm really glad they made this an instant. 5/5
