you can't really compare a land that comes into play tapped to birds of paradise. you can play a land and birds in one turn, where any land takes up your only land-drop. apples and oranges.

I like to think of it just erupting out of the ground on the battlefield, probably somewhere behind it's controller.

Not a fan of lands that come into play tapped, even less when they cost an extra 1 to play. Any mana, however, makes it decent. 3.5/5.

Yeahhh.. I don't like it. Its basically using up 2 mana for a land you can't use first turn no matter what without garruk or something in play and then in still uses up 1 mana. If your spending 2 mana anyways might as well play fertile ground, that way as long as you have 3 mana you can play it on the untapped land to instantly regain one, something rupture spire can never do. It also can't ever be played first turn without a chrome mox, so it wont be any help casting early mana producers and fixers like birds of paradise.

Even though I don't like it, you have to admit the flavor is awesome. A spire of rainbow energy bursts forth from one of your lands?
Man, that'd be cool to see.

it pays off after 2 turns, actually it can pay off big the next turn when you're running a multi mana deck such as myself. this allowed me to play some cards that would have been stuck in my hand the next turn had i not used this. however i prefer birds over this like others mentioned, still this is a solid 4.5/5.

You all rate this below Birds of Paradise, but what if your using a multicoloured deck that doesn't use green as its main colour? I use a 5 colour mainly-red elemental deck that only has 2 forests in it, so I'd much rather stick some of these in than Birds.

On another note, not all of us can afford the £30 it costs to get 4 Birds of Paradise, and this can act as a cheaper alternative.

I'm just sayin', every card has its uses :)

Slightly crappier version of Birds of Paradise. It comes into play tapped. Birds has summoning sickness. You have to pay 1 mana for this. Same for Birds. However, there are a few differences...

Better than Birds?
Can't be countered, unlike Birds.
You'll run into less land removal than creature removal.
Cost is colorless, unlike Birds.

Worse than Birds?
Can't play another land that turn, unlike Birds.
Can't be used to block in a sticky situation.

The first negative point is pretty big, so I'd rate this below Birds.

Birds = 5
Rupture Spire = 4.5
I dig it.
