They don't fit uncommon because their application is very narrow.

I'd like to see a new cycle of laces, or actually two cycles, ones that can change to opposing color. White likes to have card that can turn creatures to black.

Oh, this card brings back fond memories. It was the cheapest rare around in revised and i could easily trade in a full playset. then i put them, together with 4 purelaces, into my b/w knight deck. Indestructible white knights and Order of Leitburs. I even won a tourney with this deck back then.

Opening one of these five laces in 4th Ed. was like being insulted.
@Mode: I like your positive thinking but your example is really just theory, isn't it? ;-)

The laces are all useful, and are the best there is at what they do (which is change the color of stuff). It was a mistake puting these at rare, they fit better in uncommon.

None of these laces (including the newer Moonlace) is really good, yet Deathlace is still the best one of them all since there are so many effects that can only destroy non-black creatures.

Things we learned from 4th Edition: lace is not very deadly.

Only time this card is useful:
You're at 2 life, with a Demon's Horn out.
Your opponent Lightning Bolts you.
BAM!
+2 life for you!
And you live to see another turn.

I really wish Wizards would make a set themed around flexible color hate.

It could be done a number of ways, too:
1. Color changing cards like deathlace, but with buyback.
2. A mechanic like overload, but printed on color hate cards and expanding the spell to affect all colors.
3. Cards like flickering ward, where you choose a color when it comes into play but can change that color with a little effort.
4. Cards like some of the scarecrows, that grant other creatures more colors.

That way color hate wouldn't be resigned to the sideboard. You could put it in the maindeck and use it against any color, you would just be extra happy when one of your spells happened to target the opponent's color.
