I really want to make room for this in my Elf Ramp deck, but Concordant Crossroads does the haste job so much better. Yeah, it gives haste to my opponent's creatures. But it also gives all of my elves haste for even less mana, which means my opponent won't even get to use the haste most of the time; they'll be dead.

Still, a dope card that's probably overpowered.

My favourite card in Magic by far. I always have to find excuses not to run it in specific decks.

Without thinking, I put this in my Lazav, DImir Mastermind EDH. The first time I played it, this happened:

Me: I cast lightning greaves!
Friend: Your commander is already hexproof. Why are you using this?
Me: I... um... I don't know... it's lightning greaves. Anyway, your turn.
Friend: Okay, I cast Oblivion Ring on your lightning greaves.
Me: Why did you do that? My commander is hexproof.
Friend: Because it's lightning greaves.

THAT'S how good this card is. And lightning greaves is still in my Lazav EDH.

EDH staple. But really, I have never seen an EDH deck that didn't benefit from running both this and Swiftfoot Boots

Got this in the Mimeoplasm deck. I love the idea of giving your Sharuum the Hegemon a nice pair of shoes. So good without being broken. 5*

@even22even

No, you cannot do that. As noted elsewhere in these comments, equipping an artifact is (unless noted otherwise) done at sorcery speed. Therefore, you may not respond to the casting of a spell or activation of an ability with it. The stack must be clear for you to move the greaves.

One of my favorite Magic cards. Goes great on my Guardian Beast in my EDH deck if I don't draw my Swiftfoot Boots first. It also helps my commander a lot too, Bartel Runeaxe.

Are you a big creatures person? Do you like your 8/8's hasted and shrouded? Then this is for you!

Are you a big combo person? Having trouble keeping your Master Transmuter alive? This card's for you!

This card's pwn just 'cause of its 0 cost. Swiftfoot boots isn't broken like this one merely because it costs 1 more for hexproof. This ones just ridiculous. In my artifact deck I play Leonin Abumas and laugh when I've got this card because nothing can ever be targeted again on my side of the board.

5/5

@Diabloboy

Since you equip at Sorcery speed, your opponent can kill your creature in response to the activated ability (equiping is an AA) so, yes, they get about one shot to take him down. If they are tapped out at the time, sucks for them!

Lightning Greaves is unquestionably broken to me. A free equip cost means there's almost no decision about whether or not to use it. You simply use it whenever you can. It also allows for some wild combos from Leonin Shikari to Daru Spiritualist to Cephalid Illusionst (the latter two being better with another free equip cost artifact, Shuko). It's dangerous enough that Wizards has to be careful if they decided to ever print another free equip cost equipment with no drawbacks or else they have to make you work for it (see Puresteel Paladin).

That being said, it takes a broken artifact like Lightning Greaves to make creature-based Commander decks viable so that you can make good use of your creatures before they die to spot removal or a board wipe.
