The CC cost was often added in Ice Age as additional cost for the cantrip. In this case, it would have been okay if it was the basic effect just for Blue. But for 1 mana less, you have the famed counterspell, which unconditionally counters the opponent, also available in Ice Age. I was playing heavily during Ice Age and never saw this card in use!

Guys, don't think of this card as a counter! Think of it as a chance to stop your opponent from casting a spell that uses up all of their mana reserves, and you get to draw a card! This combined is, in my oppinion, great!

"Comparing this to Mana Leak or Force Spike is overlooking the fact that this draws you a card. Mana Leak and Force Spike don't draw you a card. Counter a spell and draw a card for 3 mana is pretty good."

Overwhelming Intellect draws you many cards, but it's expense and situational nature make it bad.

It's much the same for Force Void. The reason Daze and Force Spike see any play is that they come online early enough to stop turn one plays, and are easy to hold ready for catching a tapped-out opponent. Holding three mana open is a lot considering the opponent has only to hold open one to play around it. While Mana Leak doesn't come online as early, it still asks the opponent to have more mana open to them than it does of you.

@Hovercraft:
Unfortunately, no, this is not very good. More often than not, this will only draw you a card, because by the time you can play it, the opponent has the extra mana a lot of the time. Great art though.

Not nearly as bad as people are making it out to be... but not particularly good, either. I think that Complicate is probably the best counterspell of this sort of type.

This is NOT Mana Leak.

This is NOT Force Spike.

This is one unhappy counter. T_T

Comparing this to Mana Leak or Force Spike is overlooking the fact that this draws you a card. Mana Leak and Force Spike don't draw you a card. Counter a spell and draw a card for 3 mana is pretty good.. Compare this to Remand, Dismiss or Arcane Denial . Back in these days there weren't fast-trips like we have today they were slo-trips. A good effect though like Panic that can easily help you in a game and then draw you a card is very powerful. Come on! This is good. Nothing 'weak' about it. ME5 please ? :(
