Or you could just run some Birds of Paradise/Orochi Leafcaller for your Distortion Strike. If it's that important.

@ Lord_of_Tresserhorn

4CC implies a 6-mana casting cost (i.e. 4GG). Please use the already established ways of notating mana costs. C = colored mana, so Trailblazer is 2CC, Ball Lightning is CCC, and so on.

This card is rather unplayable indeed.

But it has cool flavor. I mean think about it. It's pretty cool to imagine a game that has "trailblazers" as a fundamental type of creatures that are meant for getting through your opponent's defenses with ease and before the others.

Also i think some new players (or at least when this card was printed) would overrate this card and totally love it.
I used to have much respect for creatures that had powerful evasive abilities aside from flying to damage the opponent (like Shadow, Rhox's ability, or simply being unblockable.)

I also remember freaking out when i first saw Cloak of Mists and totally couldn't understand how this wasn't a rare card.
Which is kind of funny since Trailblazer is rare yet costs twice as much, is only temporarily and you can barely make use of the fact that it's an instant. (Some might now argue with the color pie and say it's rare because it's something green usually cann... (see all)

Back then, unblockability was a huge thing - see my discourse on Teleport vs. Distortion Strike.

Se, yes, it is strongly overcosted by today's standards, but as mentioned, green is still best at shelling out the mana, so 4CC is not too bad to get a hugy fatty through. And while most green fatties do have trample, this could net you the needed few extra points of damage. 2/5.

Sadly enough, this doesn't even make the bottom 50 cards of all time.

A clear 1/5

Not completely, totally useless. But horrible.

I think this deserves a little better than a 1.
Green unblockable? Almost unheard of.
4 mana? Not much for green.
You get one of your green meanies huge (Krosan Cloudscraper perhaps) and avoid all those pesky blockers at instant speed. No trample required ;)
2/5 (hey I didn't say it was great or anything)

This card made me realize that it is impossible to give a card zero stars.

Seeing as Green has some of the beastliest, nasty big critters around, and the cheap whatsits to make them bigger, this card is devastating! And don't go all "whispersilk cloak" on me, it's not an instant, and it suffers the same vulnerability every artifact does to things like shatter.

@DrJack
CC means Converted Cost. That is all colorless mana plus the colored mana. This has CC four because 2 colorless+1 green+1green=4 total. Ball lighting is 3CC because R+R+R=3. If C was a color (like WUBRG) then you would be right. I have never tapped for C before though. If you are talking about color weight than that would be color weight of 2 (on this card) because it has two colored mana symbols.
