"Planeswalkers are among the most powerful beings in the multiverse" "Their lives could last indefinitely, and their physical forms were matters of will as they were energy projections of a center of consciousness. Through intense effort, planeswalkers could create their own artificial planes. Because of planeswalkers' prolonged life spans and immense power, some are worshipped as gods; many end up insane, or, at the very least, they come to regard the lives of mortals in low-esteem, if even at all."
Alas the old breed of planeswalker is dead. Still, the new breed is doubtless powerful. I mean, it is summoning them, not the other way around. I mean, elspeth coming to Theros is a big deal but planeswalkers summon things all the time. Gods are indestuctable sure but elspeth can give that to the whole team. And do wrath of god, but for everyone else. And that is just doing a favour for a friend!

Eh, interesting combat trick. Black doesn't really get any, but we need heroic enablers in every color. As for the flavor text, what about the fates?

the Triad of Fates are mortals, at least on Theros, and Erebos is a God.

Yes, there's a little bit of interesting crossover of domains and powers and who should trump who. Well, that means there's room for story-telling. :) Imagine the Fates, Heliod, Athreos, and Erebos all having a debate about whether Elspeth should be permitted to die in battle with the Hydra or Xenagos or something?? They each have something of a claim on her soul...and would being in the Underworld of Theros be a useful thing for her Hero's Quest or not? How all would the possibilities and politics work out? Plus she's a Planeswalker?

Having a vague distinction of 'just who really IS the Master of Life, Death, the Universe, and Everything' is one of the few ways to tell interesting stories about Divine Beings :) I'm glad that it seems to be quite unclear whether the Fates, Erebos, Athreos, or Heliod has more say in matte... (see all)

Can also be used to tap down a creature before combat.

@DarthParallax: Planeswalkers are way more powerful than Gods, even after the events of Time Spiral, if we are able to judge anything about the lore based on the game. And with Planeswalkers having the Spark and everything, I wouldn't doubt that their "souls" end up in entirely another place than that of other "mortals". So I believe that Elspeth can effectively choose her own destiny, no matter what plane she's on.

@Tiggurix
Planeswalkers have never been compared to "Gods" because the only time anyone made a directly diefic statement about ANYONE in MTG was about Freyalise, who was pre-Time Spiral. And that didn't stop her from being useless in the Invasion.

Planeswalkers are individuals who have magic, yes, but everyone in MTG has magic of a sort. And they can traverse the planes. Sure, they may indeed count differently for soul-stuff, but lets not say they're as strong as gods when Gideon and Jace can't even handle a city.

Your wasting a spell to tap down a creature. The creature only taps if it's destroyed: “Regenerate ” means “The next time would be destroyed this turn, instead remove all damage marked on it and tap it...."

Congratulations, just lost 2 life and your opponent has a free +2/+0 Regenerating blocker.

A Black version of Giant Growth with an arguably lesser upside, and an unnecessary downside. Yeah Black, let's just stick to killing things.
