combos with archetype of finality

There is no interaction with double strike, as it is a different ability than first strike.

This thing is pretty pushed. Awesome in a Soldier deck.

When you and your opponent both have an archetype, their abilities kick in, which give all of your creatures the designated ability, however each of their "can't" clauses factor in, altering the game's rules so that you're creatures can't get the boost. Whenever two cards contradict one another, the "can't" or "does not" (basically the negative ability) wins, and that is the one that is followed.

So when the same archetype is on both sides of the battlefield, no one gets (insert ability here.)

This specific archetype does not affect double strike, seeing as a creature with double strike does not *have* first strike, it just deals damage in both the first strike, and normal combat phases.

Best archetype in the cycle. Makes an army of chump blockers into a reputable force.

Seems pretty nuts, especially at uncommon. The best combos with some deathtouchy-feely creatures or Archetype of Finality.

What happens if you and your opponent have one?

Maybe its because this was the first archetype I saw, but this is the archetypal archetype for me - along with archetype of imagination it creates and prevents something that interacts specifically with the opposing creatures. As opposed to hexproof or haste where your opponent having it doesn't normally negate the usefulness of you having it.

I'm also fascinated by how color pie interacts here. first strike doesn't interact with flying or hexproof much, but its definitely good against deathtouch and haste. Unfortunately I can't quite make as much of the other ones.

A good Archetype, but now mono-white is REALLY cluttered at the three drop spot, where previously it had only been moderately cluttered. Let's count the ways, shall we? Fiendslayer Paladin, Spear of Heliod, Banisher Priest, Ajani, Caller of the Pride, and now Brimaz, King of Oreskos all make this card less and less attractive to play. Especially the last two. People will have to choose which 1WhiteWhite creature they play and I fear Mister Archetype here is the weakest of the bunch...

Ever played Duels of the Planeswalkers and played two 2/2s with first strike? The AI will not attack into that with anything below 5 toughness. That's not just dumb AI, that's because that board state is incredibly strong.

While it's a bit of an awkward curve because of the double white, it's possible to have Sedge Scorpion and Baleful Eidolon come in earlier. Easily the best of the cycle.

Gatherer works better in the Companion app!
