A beautiful example of top-down design. While I've never had much inclination to use this card that much myself, seeing as how I'm not that into dragons, I'm still happy it exists. There's something strangely heartening about it!

Kind of neat with Convalescent Care.

Obviously, not a guaranteed win in most cases, but that's part of what makes it so awesome. With this, you're so bad ass you come down to finish the opponent and his pathetic creatures your own self. With fire.

Also, this could work well with the fateful hour cards from dark ascension.

Phyrexian Unlife

In order to win, your opponent will have to deal you damage down to zero life or less, and then, later on the same turn, will have to deal you at least 10 more damage. And they'll have only a few turns to draw a Disenchant or to gather the rare combination of direct damage and/or flying creatures (divided as necessary between first strikers and non-first-strikers) to pull it off.

Ah, my signature card. Setting one's life to 5 isn't always the most effective strategy for staying alive, but when you're also gaining fiery breath and a pair wings, it's fun!

It's just so flavorful :)
And what's more, it's still useful, even with all that flavor.

Use with Solitary Confinement and at least 5 cards in hand will usually win you the game.

Since your life total being set to a specific value causes life gain/ loss, you can use Platinum Emperion to keep your old life total after playing FotD.
