You might be right, radagastx. But that still doesn't make that card better, majinara has a good point here. Your opponent will use similar synergies, and if he makes use of more playable cards that in general are already as useful as Suncrusher is with Crystal Quarry or whatsoever he'll be able to make even better use of them.
For 9 mana this is a lategame drop, you should seriously be able to have either unlimited use of his ability or activate it for less mana. This card shouldn't even need the latter ability, since it was merely added to cast him a second time for refilling his counters rather than saving him.
Sure, if you manage to cast him with five counters you'll have a 8/8 nine-drop with a usable effect, but compare him to Reaper King, Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, Woodfall Primus, Helldozer, Avatar of Woe or Visara the Dreadful for ex... (see all)

"Well, what does it do?"

"It crushes suns."

"That seems...impractical."

"Don't worry, there're five of 'em on Mirrodin."

Sunburst works best in a green deck, where you can generate the other colors of mana. the absolute best card to have in play with a sunburst deck is Doubling Season, because it causes far larger growth then just sunburst or a Coretapper can

I agree; I can rarely get this thing out, and when I do it isn't nearly as impressive as it should be. I usually just refuel it with Energy Chamber and have it blow up whichever creature the opponent has that is currently the biggest annoyance, but if I have an Energy Chamber and I've survived long enough to have 9 mana to blow, I probably would be just as well without it. That being said, an 8/8 that can dish out a no-strings-attatched killing of one creature every turn is a hard thing for the Timmy in me to resist. ABsolutely badass art though, and that counts for a lot, in my book.

Just everything about it costs far too much mana.
If I play an 8/8 guy for 9 mana, I don't want it to sit back and kill creatures for 4 mana each. It should have a way to untap itself, reduced cost on abilities, and trample.

to make good use of this card, or all other sunburst cards for that matter, i suggest using crystal quarry(land that lets you tap itself and 5 of any land to give you 1 of each color) and fist of sun's(an artifact that lets you replace the mana cost of all your monsters with 1 of each mana). with that combo you can get this bad boy out in turns 4-6 depending on the other mana grabbers you have.

I can't see how this is not a horrible creature. Maybe it will be relevant in a far, far future.

Use in The Mimeoplasm EDH.

Nuke a critter every turn after removing this and Krosan Cloudscraper. Yeah!

Wait, the precon has Avatar of Woe in it already that does the same for less mana?
