Strictly better than Shatter?

I love how it looks like someone threw it hard against the ground and it bounced all the way to our viewpoint. The buyback is a bit expensive, but recurring anything is nothing to scoff at. if i was putting in artifact removal i would consider this card.

Amazing card, but best played in EDH. Otherwise I'd prefer a Shattering Spree.

If you've got Isochron Scepters, there are much, much better things you can put on it than a Fury Charm. I would submit that this is better than Isochron Scepter/Fury Charm because this only requires one card. If you want recurring artifact destruction, use this or Viashino Heretic, and leave your Scepters open for more powerful fare, like Lightning Helix, Counterspell, or Orim's Chant.

Not sure how this card is rated lower than Shatter. It does exactly the same thing as Shatter, but with the optional buyback. It's not like you have to use the buyback if you don't want to. If you don't pay the extra 3, it acts just like Shatter, right down to the instant speed (which Shattering Spree does not have, for all those who say it is strictly better than this or Shatter).

It's funny that Shatter is rated under 3 for all basic sets and expansions except for Mirrodin and Scars of Mirrodin where it's rated almost 4.

Great card, probably one of the better uses of Buyback. Usually when you have to start using artifact destruction you wind up having to use it repeatedly. Depending on the deck you're up against the 5cmc-per-turn cost for getting rid of an artifact might be worth it.

I still have some Shatters, but the only reason I ever put them in a deck is for nostalgia's sake. In all other cases it's Shattering Pulse for my red artifact destruction needs.

Mmm. Best Shatter variant. This was on the sideboard of every red deck I played (red: almost every deck I played) for a goodly while.

Such a good art, even for way back then!

Shatter was never particularly good, so it only makes sense that it would be obsoleted. I think this is the first card to do just that. Ancient Grudge and Fury Charm are the others.

@tavaritz: It only makes sense that the Mirrodin and Scars shatters would be rated higher- the environment they were in had tons of artifacts! You would almost never draft shatter in a normal set, but in an artifact-heavy set, it would probably be a first or second pick! Environment matters with almost every card.
