I already feed my Pests to my Lord of the Pit with Nuisance Engine. So why not have this guy too? Besides, he's more splashable then Lord of the Pit.

@scumbling

Contradictory information must have been given, because I have seen either Doug Beyer or Mark Rosewater state Yawgmoth is, in the words of The Princess Bride, "mostly dead. Not Completely dead". I think that sometime after Innistraad and Karn's destiny, Yawgmoth will make a (possibly small) appearance, if only as a mention or a ghost.
EDIT:
I have noticed that both Doug Beyer and Mark Rosewater are pretty much batshit insane and are just making stuff up as they go along. So you're probably right. 'Color Pie" my Royal Assassin.

Given certain scenes in Scourge, there is still some mystery over whether or not Yawgmoth is truly dead or not. That said, I think that any evidence pointing to him still being alive will probably be retconned - Wizards have made it clear that the Phyrexia they still care about is the new one being built on Mirrodin, not the ruin of a plane left after Apocalypse (and its old master).

The sacrificing of an artifact is not mandatory. You can choose not to sacrifice an artifact but will pay the consequences.

This card has new synergy in Esper black, with cards like Salvage Slasher and Sludge Strider. I like it, and the art is awesome.

@ Bracon 900: Interesting theory, but they've stated explicitly on Wizard's homepage that Yawgmoth is dead and gone. That whole Karona nonsense is widely regarded as a huge mistake in continuity between different authors not informed of each others' work.

@ Shadoflaam: In this article from the address below, Doug flat out states he's dead.

"The role of the leader of Phyrexia, formerly occupied by Yawgmoth. After Yawgmoth's death, Phyrexia was defeated on Dominaria. At this time, the civilization of Phyrexia on Mirrodin has not found a new Father of Machines."

While this doesn't absolutely guarantee that they wouldn't pull some shenanigans like you mentioned (though I ran a quick search at Wizards' homepage, but didn't find anything for that phrase you used) I think this statement is the best source to go off of until it's official that Yawgmoth is alive in some capacity.

Damn, Yawgmoth. How many cards did you make? And this is the only one that isn't brokensauce. I can't wait to see you printed as a PW. Your +1 ability will probably be "Target player loses the game", and your ultimate will be even better.

I wish this guy was better than he is.
This guy would be an artifact creature if released today, along with most phyrexian creatures, which would give this guy plenty of sacrifice fodder
