Echo Mage approves.

@Discoduck: While Fireball is on the stack, its converted mana cost is X+1. For example, that's the why you can't Counterbalance a Fireball by revealing another Fireball.

This card rocks as a response to Time Stretch, Emrakul and any number of expensive things in EDH

In response to your Emrakul.

@KryptNyt

Actually you can since this spell doesn't counter it and protection doesn't apply until it enters the battlefield.

I didn't know this card existed. Now that I do, my RedBlue instant/ sorcery burn deck has my favorite kind of finisher! I love it!
@ dberry - Fireball's converted mana cost is 1. In most circumstances, I'd call that a waste of 4 mana.

This is great against anyone who likes to build up an infinite mana engine and then use that to fuel some massive X spell. Victims of my shenanigans with this:
(Alternatively, you can call this my "In response to your (card)..." list)
Protean Hydra
Gelatinous Genesis
Comet Storm
Banefire
Blue Sun's Zenith
Chimeric Mass
Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre, though on this one I happened to have a Djinn Illuminatus on the field and he wanted to kill it with Ulamog. That was a no go.

Now then, question. For EDH, if someone has had their general killed over and over and over and is bringing it back in again, theoretically having to pay a CMC of 17 for it, would this card deal 17 damage to them?
