Man, I thought people would like this card more than this. No comments even.

Sure, it's way worse than Llanowar Elves, but not HORRENDOUS right??

@Gezus82: You might want to re-read Wilt-Leaf Liege. I think there's a key word you're missing: "opponent." ;)

And the mentor? Dredge. Madness. And anything dealing with graveyard recursion. Like all cards, it has its place.

Cards with replacement effects when they get discarded generally only work if the source from the effect is from an opponent for reasons like that, Gezus82.

Nontheless i agree that the possibility to turn any card in hand into a Llanowar Elf (moreover: into permanent mana accel) is pretty useful.
In general directly using Llanowar Elves might be better, but when used along with the right cards this guy can be your friend.
Although Wilt-Leaf Liege won't work, there are many cards which come in handy for discarding, like cards with Madness or Incarnations - Anger in particular, which allows you to offset the mana required to produce a Llanowar Elf immediately by tapping it since it gets haste (given that you control a Mountain).

Relentless Elves!

These "discard a card: get a copy of such-a-such card" cards are wonderful with Doubling Season.

Yes, I know, I know, everything and its brother is wonderful with Doubling Season. But the card advantage generated from this pairing is also good in an incremental Spike sense, not just a wildholycrap Johnny sense. Run creatures with Scavenge (Deadbridge Goliath), get 2-for-1 Llanowar Elves, use Scavenge activations to pump your creatures, and.

A million better Johnny combos exist, sure, but try this one from a competitive perspective -- it's not powerful enough to see tournament play, but it plays smoothly and incrementally in the way that a ramp Spike player will appreciate. Playing BlackGreen, Pack Rats are a good place to start...

Not actually a bad card at all. Good for that stage in the game where picking up land sucks. Discard your land for an elf creature instead. Not Bad.

I worked out a deck where all 60 cards are creatures. It runs this with Rhys the redeemed, basking rootwalla, elvish archdruid, and llanowar mentor. Start with dryad arbor and possibly elvish spirit guides, for opening mana, play mentor, toss rootwalla for an elf and play it for its madness cost. Use Rhys to double the llanowar elves every turn ramping the archdruid casting emrakul early game, after getting khalni hydras for free, of course. Try it, its FUN!!! If its not a creature its not in the deck.(haze frog and acidic slime help, along with master of the wild hunt for creature destruction.)

Imperious Perfect and Elvish Archdruid generate more board advantage and mana than this, you know.

I LOVE THIS CARD!!
turn one him turn 2 discard a card for a llowanar elves and bam, guess what you just discarded, thats right, wilt-leaf liege.
and besides what's wrong with turning all the useless cards in your hand into llowanar elves?
I mean how many times have you been staring at a, well anything, and been thinking damn I wish I had a llowanar elves instead. and it also helps you get past that pesky 4 copy limit
5/5, and the art is amazing too

aw, damnit. the wilt-leaf thing is kind of frustrating. but this is still rly good. turning any unwanted card in your hand into a llowanar elves is nothing to be underrate.

Again, I assert that there needs to be a card that makes you your own opponent...one can only dream...

In the right deck I could see substituting two of these to free up two slots that would be taken by ordinary Llanowar Elves. Running G/W, make at least one of them Armageddon for after you bring out your Llanowar legion of mana production. Then cast Terravore after Armageddon (ideally) deprives your opponent(s) of mana.

Could also run in GreenBlack with some reanimate. Not all that is discarded is lost.
