Get hold of Revised Rule Book. It states that all cost:+x/+y effects work only to the end of turn.

It also tells what the very usefull and IMHO mistakenly taken out keyword 'bury' means. It means 'destroy without possibility of regeneration'. Much simpler than the whole phrase used today. Using 'bury' WotC could get more flavor text on the cards, but for some obscure(1) reason they don't want to use it.

(1) The reason I've heard is: "There are too many keywords, people cannot remember them." That's BS as they are introducing new keywords all the time and assume that we, the players, can remember what they are. We can do that, so we can also remember what 'bury' means and it would have been even easier if they had keep using it, because it would have been in every set printed.

In regards to whether this card ability lasts as a permanent increase versus end of turn, from the official updated rule book:

"611.2a A continuous effect generated by the resolution of a spell or ability lasts as long as stated by the spell or ability creating it (such as "until end of turn"). If no duration is stated, it lasts until the end of the game."

I do not see where it says "all cost:+x/+y effects work only to the end of turn."

The way my friends and I play, you can keep feeding the Atog artifacts and the effect stays like a counter until the end of game. this is only for the 3rd edition revised. Please someone tell me where they see otherwise in the rulebook.

The full section 611:

611. Continuous Effects

611.1. A continuous effect modifies characteristics of objects, modifies control of objects, or affects players or the rules of the game, for a fixed or indefinite period.

611.2. A continuous effect may be generated by the resolution of a spell or ability.

611.2a A ... (see all)

@ Baltham:

well yes, those are the current rules.

as per tavaritz: "Get hold of Revised Rule Book. It states that all cost:+x/+y effects work only to the end of turn."

For a brief period in 1994 those were the printed rules. Note that Revised versions of Firebreathing and Blessing also do not say until end of turn (and Dragon Whelp, Shivan Dragon and so on).

So by all means, go on playing Atog incorrectly if you like.

Yeah, back in Revised the rules were that +x/+y abilities lasted until the end of the turn unless the card explicitly stated otherwise. It was incredibly confusing, and Atog in particular confused people (because at first glance it didn't look like it would be that broken for it to be permanent in the Revised set, where there were almost no 0-cost artifacts.)
