It certainly beats the pants off of Plasma Elemental. 1 less cost, 3 more toughness so it can actually survive until its controller's next turn against a burn deck, and the ability to drain the opponents hand when it attacks. I haven't lost any games where I've managed to get one of these into play.

rofl at the demi god of revenge comment, its not that great a card.. exiling it destroys that strategy completely, and it requires at least 2 of the same card in your deck to work. Not to mention terminate works on anything.
The real amazing part of the ability on ghastlord is you choose what they discard, rather than discarding what they want, you can really wreck the opponents strategy by playing ghastlord early. The unblockable part on a 4/4 doesn't hurt either, its unusual for a card with that much power to have unblockable as well, aside from the black card dread which has fear. Enchanted with its own helm of the ghastlord its a 6/6 that discards two cards and draws a card, probably the best avatar.

Just for fun, enchant him with Helm of the Ghastlord. 6/6 unblockable; draw a card and opponent loses two cards each swing.
