Works well in conjunction with Lazav, Dimir Mastermind.
A single removal spell will allow both to transform.

I only wish it were "from anywhere" rather than "from play." I want to use it in a U/B mill deck, but...no cigar.

Okay, a clarification on this card in case anyone needs it: If it copies three times in one turn, the last copy is the one that sticks. Basically, if say four creatures dies, think of the ability as:
'tap one mana, morph into target creature that just died, each new morph replaces the one it was before'
