Wouldn't having a single card out like essence warden mean I get infinite rats? Seems ridiculous.

Good late game if youre life is higher.
Either your opponent wont risk the life and you have a few extra attackers/blockers or they cant resist getting some tokens and make it easier to take them out.

I think with Soul Warden you could pay ten billion life and get them back immediately.
Edit: Nope, I was wrong. The card says "pay" therefore you can't pay more life than you have.

I have a quick question about this... could you use it with Lich's Tomb to get your life to 0 and just sac the rat each time then use Repay in Kind

this and a soul warden is an great combo. pay all but one life and get that many rats and get back your life

this is a good way to get a lot of blockage for no mana. only use i you have a creature with life link such as child of the night
