It's obscene that this has a 2/2 body instead of a 1/1.

I run two in my Esper Deck. I always seem to pull it late game for some reason. But when I do get it early game and my opponent plays two spells I'm like "nope". Great card completely shuts down Elves 4.5*

Ugh, you know a rules text is badly worded when the rulings basically have to restate it. I love this card for my artifact decks, but it gets me into so many arguments with my opponents.

That's wrong.
The first spell to _resolve_ is the one cascaded into.
The first spell that is _played_ is the one with cascade.
If you play a spell (nonartifact) with cascade with the Canonist out, you start cascading.
When you find a card (nonartifact), the Canonist prevents you from playing it, and you put all the cards removed with cascade on the bottom of your library as normal.

if you cast a spell on your turn, can you also cast a spell on your opponents?

ok First off the ability is there as long as she is.
second in cascade the spell you cascade into is the FIRST spell that gets played so unless you cascade into a artifact or your cascading with a sphinx this chick stops the cascading spell it's self from going off.

also oracle has to say

In other words: Each turn, each player can play any number of artifact spells plus a maximum of one nonartifact spell.
10/1/2008 This effect counts all nonartifact spells that are played, even those that are countered.
10/1/2008 This effect takes into account spells that were played earlier in the turn that Ethersworn Canonist came into play, including any spells still on the stack. However, any spells on the stack as Ethersworn Canonist comes into play have already been "played" by that point, so they're not affected by it.

HER ABILITY IS A CONSTANT ABILITY, PREVENTING OTHER PLAYERS ON THEIR TURNS AS WELL. YES SHE MESSES UP CASCADE. BUT THAT EFFECT LEAVES WHEN SHE LEAVES PLAY.
