this hydra is a pretty cool addition to the crea. type. very simple yet efective. a great card to have in your deck if you're playing emperor.

You know whats really awesome about this card is that it technically counts as a 1 mana 0/0 power creature for cards like ranger of eos and reveillark. The ability to play it as a 2/2ish and better earlier on, and then still be a 5 power creature late game when you top deck it is invaluable as well. Fun card in a green/black deck with rite of consumption, or red/green/white with brion stoutarm.

Sorry Donovan, but it would still die as soon as it comes into play with 0 toughness.

Funny thing is, I might have played an Ivy Elemental because it scales, but the complexity of Feral Hydra turned me down completely. Some cards I put into my decks just for style points; muddle up the inherent coolness (aka elegance) of Ivy Elemental and I won't play it, even if it's an Ivy Elemental with an upside.

Arguably the most generic hydra out there, and rather underwhelming when compared with Protean and Primordial Hydras, as well as Apocalypse Hydra. This card is powered appropriately for an uncommon, not a rare. It has some limited use in team games and/or if the activation cost can be lowered (training grounds, etc.) Still, it should have been better, and the artwork is rather disappointing, too. Looks like a porcupine with a lot of heads vs. a hydra.

Strictly better than Ivy Elemental... unless you get Mindslavered with a counterspell in your hand and the opponent uses its ability to drain your mana pool in order to play a big spell their next turn that would've been countered otherwise. Though you still get to keep the +1/+1 counters unless that spell they played killed your guy.

I guess it's not strictly better then.
