New art is infinitely better, thank you thank you thank you.

I've never had the pleasure of owning this guy so i've never tested it, but it seems to me that by the time you're able to hit your opponent with a 6/6 flier, saprolings are going to be pretty useless, yes?

My EDH General. I don't lose often. Really good with anything else that makes green tokens, like Saproling Symbiosis, in order to rapidly increase your token count.

I find this card to be both powerful, yet over rated. He's a large flying dragon, which is great, but he has no anti removal which is basically a necessity on any high mana card because you don't want to lose that much mana investment to a doomblade. The other downside is your actually paying mana for the tokens, and it's slow to get them going, by contrast you could use ant queen with a lot of mana to pump out several tokens a turn. You also have several other options for token creation that take no mana at all or are similiar but better (oona, mycoloth, dragon broodmother, rampaging baloths, are some common examples). Basically after he hits play your pinning a lot of your chances on winning the game on this one card since you will be using up a lot of mana to get his saproling creation going. His ability also reminds me a lot of pollenbright wings, that depending on the deck might actually be better (aka attach pollenbright wings to uril the miststalker). If I had to choose a ... Am I the only one that's thought of using Rith in combination with Warstorm Surge and Coat of Arms? Of course Warstorm Surge wouldn't cause Rith's ability to activate (since it's not combat damage), but one hit with Rith and you summon Saprolings. Each one of those gets a +1/+1 for each other Saproling you summon. Then, each Saproling would do damage equal to their power to target creature or player.

For example, hit your opponent with Rith and choose green. If there are 10 green permanents on the field, you get 10 saprolings. Each one of those would enter the field as an 11 due to coat of arms. That's a total of 11x10 extra damage you can dish out because of Warstorm.

The combo seems a bit high cost, but I run a red/green saproling deck with a spruce of white and black. Life and limb makes the Saprolings into land, and Terra Eternals keep them from being slaughtered.

Primordial Dragon EDH Review 5/5: Rith, the Awakener

Rith's Attendant.
Rith's Charm.
Rith's Grove.
Coalition Relic.
Jungle Shrine.

OK, now that Vorthos has spoken up, it's time for Spike.

Doubling Season.
Parallel Lives.
Congregate.
Congregate at Dawn.
Gisela, Blade of Goldnight.

Rith, the Awakener is to the Primordial Dragons what Nicol Bolas is to the Elders. Filling her deck up with 'staples' and 'obvious cards' ADDITIONALLY happens to give you cards that feel just sooo in flavor for the colors. I think that's because Naya is ultimately "Good-Aligned" and Grixis is ultimately "Evil-Aligned" so each of these color-alignments are fed by cards that just tend to have a high density of Mythic-feeling, even back befo... Oh, man! The art on this version is simply amazing. Definitely getting this version when I start building my Rith EDH.
