The flavor is a bit nonsensical, but humorous.

Hey, remember Llanowar Knight? Turns out she was actually a pale philosopher.

For the benefit of people who wander here in the future, long after Conflux is forgotten:

This card was part of a cycle of gold common creatures, all of which had protection from their shared enemy color:

Goblin Outlander - BlackRed (Jund Goblin Scout, traveled to RedGreenWhite Naya)
Nacatl Outlander - RedGreen (Naya Cat Scout, traveled to GreenWhiteBlue Bant)
Valeron Outlander - GreenWhite (Bant Human Scout, traveled to WhiteBlueBlack Esper)
Vedalken Outlander - WhiteBlue (Esper Vedalken Scout, traveled to BlueBlackRed Grixis)*
Zombie Outlander - BlueBlack (Zombie Scout, traveled to BlackRedGreen Jund)

*This one is unique as it is an artifact creature.

I am basing this off of the background, the location, and flavor text of each - the sculpted ethereum filigree seems to indicate she isn't on Grixis. Note that they always have protection from one of the secondary colors of their destination shard.

equinox523 is right. She's clearly on Esper. Compare the background to the art on cards like Esper Panorama, Fieldmist Borderpost and Ethersworn Adjudicator.

Grixis looks quite different from Esper. There's more of a dark, stormy gloom to it, as seen on things like View From Above and Kathari Screecher.

For an easy way to contrast Grixis and Esper, see Mistvein Borderpost, and possibly Rupture Spire (which might be showing Jund rather than Grixis).

For clarity's sake, she is in Esper, not Grixis. She's encountering black mana for the first time, but she isn't on the black-aligned shard. Similarly, all the other outlanders are on shards bordering their native shards.
