Looks like Sorin just pulled off a Drizzt Do'urden in the flavor text...

Wrath of God, you shall be missed. Ever since those good ol' days in Alpha...

But as anyone else might have said, this card is better than wrath because it allows you to regenerate your creatures (Cudgel Troll or Drudge Skeletons, anyone?). Or there's Wrap In Vigor, as someone else pointed out.

@Corgi: Um, no. Protection only works against cards that specifically TARGETS that creature with protection. It doesn't work against cards that affect the entire board like this card. So sorry, even the cards that have protection from white die. Tough luck. Even Progenitus is affected.

A more intuitive Wrath of God. More fun, and makes one of the hallmark "evergreens" of magic more relevant.

I actually like this card more than Wrath of God. I know it's not really as good, but not very many creatures get to regenerate, and when they do, they are often cards like Wrath and Terminate that just preemptively say "no". Not having a clause about regeneration will make for more fun games and make creatures with the ability to regenerate all the better. It is good for the environment when cards have abilities that actually make a difference.

And what if you have a way to only regenerate your own creatures? Like Loxodon Hierarch, as was mentioned?

I like this one a lot more than I ever thought I would. During the prerelesease, I played this followed by Emeria Angel and my opponent looked like I was announcing the end of Christmas or something, and you can regen your creatures (which is nice, since you'll probably include extra regen in any deck with this for exactly that reason).

From a power perspective, this is probably worse than Wrath of God. It's still great, but I see your opponents more likely than you are to manipulate the lack of a regeneration clause. Still, if you're using this card at all it's usually because you don't use a lot of creatures, or possibly just have indestructible creatures. The regeneration clause doesn't really eliminate any significant strategies, it just makes this slightly easier to defend against.

From a gameplay perspective, I'd call this a better card. It opens up a few more options, and keeps things interesting.

From a flavor reason, it's a MUCH better card. We associate it with a cool card with cool art, so we're used to it, but if you think about it, "Wrath of God" is a terrible name. Why is God angry? Why does He destroy all the creatures when he's angry? Why does He stop at creatures? Why does some (semi-) mortal wizard have the power to trigger His wrath? Why is there... (see all)

Something needs to be able to remove the Eldrazi and protection from white creatures. I'm glad I have two. If your opponent concentrates on bringing out big creatures early then chances are high that you can recover more quickly from the field being cleared. Also works well with Luminarch Ascension.
