Works great with Necrotic Ooze and Skill Borrower.

If you have the Ooze outside, you can mill your entire library by using dredge creatures until you have the top card you want for the Borrower.
Like Phyrexian Devourer for example - this one also allows you to ensure that you can discard a creature card to keep untapping the Ooze.
As MrBarrelRoll said, Golgari Brownscale is an excellent dredge choice here. Golgari Thug is also nice - he doesn't give you life, but can be cast far easier; his death trigger might be of use for Skill Borrower, and the high dredge is useful when you don't have your Scholar yet.

The other way round, if Civilized Scholar is on top with Skill Borrower outside, you can tap her, discard the scholar, untap her, and use her again with the next top card while you got the Scholar in your graveyard for your Ooze.

And he also works with Quicksil... (see all)

I love using my Necrotic Ooze with this guy and Stinkweed Imp to mill myself into infinite trample damage with Skinshifter, Devoted Druid and Quillspike.

This card was really good in seal, forcing my opponents to throw down removal spell just to get rid of him.

I did some testing and found that this quy works really well with my self-mill deck. First, you tap him, draw a card and then discard a creature to transform him. You now have a 5/1 brusier that more likely than not is going to be taken out by a small creature. You have now made your Splinterfright and Kessig Cagebreakers more effective.

Okay... if civilized scholar transforms into homicidal brute and the next turn brute gets tapped by the other player does he transform back? His affect states that he must tap then transform, but if he is already tapped he can't transform. At least that's what i would think.

I like that he's drawing extra attention to his hat, in case we hadn't noticed the awesome hats people wear in Innistrad.

AVGN doesn't approve this creature.

Something funny I've done once.

Turn 1 : Island, Hedron Crab

Turn 2 : Land, Renegade Dopperganger

Turn 3 : Land, this, use Renegade Dopperganger's new ability, draw a card, discard a Dredge card. You have discarded a creature, so Renegade untaps, but doesn't transform. Dredge, then discard it again. Do it until you have 10 cards in your library.

Turn 4 : Swamp, Skaab Ruinator (from your grave), Gravecrawler (from your grave), put 4 Vengies (you have cast two creatures), Attack with 4 Vengies and 1 Renegade Dopperganger (5/6). GG
