I'm not rating this card because I'm holding out... the first time I saw it I thought it was terrible, but some poeple seem to think it's good, and looking at it again, I think it's ok...

So I really don't know what to make of it.

While I don't agree with this costing less than 4 (come on people, it's one sided AND continuous), I do think they could have done this better. Hell, would a reprint of Night of Souls' Betrayal been out of flavor? With all the 1/1 spirit tokens dissipating, leaving their owners... They could have slapped on new art and called it a day.

I think this suffered from a common problem in new blocks. Forced mechanics. R&D is tasked with shoehorning X cards with the new mechanic (Curses, in this case) into the set. So they just borrow old cards and shift them slightly (+1 due to curses being one sided) to try and make it work. The new card is never as good because not as much effort was put into it.

Look at Student of Warfare versus Figure of Destiny. Another is Taste of Blood and the return of Bloodthirst, though that was a more indirect example as it was a poorly made enabler. If you look hard enough, yo... (see all)

Way too overcosted, by the time it hits the board any token deck worth a grain of salt will have killed you, even in casual. Shame on Wizards on this one, should have costed 2-3.

Overcosted for the effect.

Should have been uncommon, or 4 CMC.

Heartless Summoning, and this.
Don't worry, I made us on equal footing. Oh, and did I mention my creatures cost less than yours? Just to be fair. Oh wait...

These can destroy your opponents game plan completely, or will at least weaken their creatures a bit. Get a couple out and they'll really do some damage.
Anyone that thinks these are over-costed should consider Engineered Plague which isn't at all bad in itself.

Why is this rated .35 lower than Night of Souls' Betrayal? You spend 1 mana more to keep your creatures uneffected (essentially one mana for +1/+1 on all of your creatures) plus it's not legendary.
