This creature could have been a 3/2 for 3 mana, which would not have been out-of-place in the early 2000s. However, if this card were to come out today, it may be considered a slow creature. I mean, you can summon a 3/3 Watchwolf for two mana... Why not this creature for three at 3/3 and its abilities?

Best use of this card: Cast it during combat before you declare attackers for an extra 3/1 attacker or as a emergency blocker

@paladin85 Even better if that last attacker is just what you need to set off Beastmaster Ascension

Could it be considered a sleeper rare if it was the prerelease card? I think it was more of an initial disappointment of a rare that finally found decency.

Or perhaps it was always decent, but it took people to figure out what it actually did because the prerelease version was in Latin. Kavu Furens...

My friend thought this card could attack on his opponent's turn. Even I knew back then that that was bs. The abilities aren't exactly synergistic, but hey, you have options now, don't you?

The effects aren't anti-synergistic, they just force you to choose one or the other. I like it because Haste represents something being fast on your turn and Flash represents it being fast on another player's turn. So it's just fast, end of story. Plus there are some weird fringe cases where you get to play it on your turn when you normally wouldn't need to and then attack (e.g. your lands are being tapped down, you can cast it during your upkeep and beat face)

You guys are looking at it wrong. Play it during your attack step!

Wait, why does it need flash... and haste?

I guess if you look at each ability separately it becomes slightly less dumb

gives R/G a way to make a blocker at any time *barring mana issues*

gives R/G another card to attack with *barring mana issues*

so basically hes going to come in and surprise your opponent with an attacker or blocker, not great, but not terrible

3.5/5 Stars

Flash and Haste have some great synergy together in a tempo deck. I'm not sure what kind of Tempo decks are running RG, but the malleability of this is great. Flash it in when you need to stabilize, haste it off a top deck while your opponent is trying to catch up.

Raging Kavu is great with Radha, Heir to Keld, since you can attack with Radha, then use the mana she gives to cast this. It's also great with Primal Forcemage, since the boost from the forcemage can be used to make the kavu a 6/4 attacker on your turn or a 6/4 blocker on your opponent's turn.
