Sometimes, you'll be digging through your old cards and see a card you once dismissed as bad, and realize it's actually good; other times, you'll see a card you thought was great and you now realize is bad. And then, there are cards that were bad to you then and just as bad to you now. This is one of those cards. Strictly worse than nearly any other 2-drop dork. 0.5/5

Even if it is filthy, the poor thing is probably a stray.
This mechanic "Whenever ~name~ is dealt damage, you lose that much life." could be named Empathy, if Wizards doesn't mind Black having an emotional soft spot, if only in the tragedies of its companions.

Might as well just make it "Disgusting Mutt cannot block". Same damn thing, really. Except this time you wont lose your stupid dog. AND I WOULD JUST FALL TO PIECES IF I WERE TO EVER LOSE SUCH A FAITHFUL AND DEPENDABLE...THING. WHATEVER IT IS.

i don't understand the balance of the cards in this hound cycle. why do green and white get 2/2 creatures for 2 with often amazing abilities (wild mongrel) and the other colors have absolutely awful drawbacks? (phantom whelp is possibly one of the worst blue creatures ever)

Awww... I just wanna give him a big ol' hug and tell him he's not the worst creature out there.

His picture doesn't do him any favors... He accidentally hurts his master whenever he's damaged (I'm sure he doesn't mean to)... Everyone in this commenting section hates him... Even his flavor text hates him.

Poor guy. :'(
