If you don't have a creature for your opponent to target, can you still not pay tribute?

Same flavor as Vexing Devil, but I think I like this more! Both are Doomed if you do, doomed if you don't. Sure it's at worst a 4/4 for 5 cmc, but at best it's an Eldrazi, Opponent's commander, or key piece of opponent's strategy. ...and, my Pirate deck will love this thing! 5/5

I'm running 2 of these.... Only because i'm running Corpsejack Menace/kalonian Hydra/bioshift nonsense.... As long as I have a way to make use of 3/6/12+ counters, I'm okay not getting a creature... and if i have to take a 1/1? Well fine, i'll just take you're only 1/1 P.O.S. creature.... but if that was really the case, wouldn't they have just countered it? since it's obviously a control deck?

Ok it has to be said as it seems to have been missed by a few here but it doesn't say you give the stolen target back. Even when she dies you keep the creature you pinched, a huge difference to my mind.

That said it is still a card, like most of the tribute cards, that belongs in multiplayer games.
