A great common, and one of my favorite cards in the set. Considering Lava Axe costs you 
, why not get a Hill Giant with it? Even if the tribute is paid, it's a 5/5 vanilla for 5 mana, which shockingly there are none of in red!
Some fun and odd stuff you can play this with:
Where Ancients Tread: Opponents take 5 damage and you get a 5/5, or take 5 and you get a 3/3.
Furnace of Rath: Deal 10 damage to all opponents, or 10 per turn when he attacks.
Pain Magnification: Threaten the opponent with discarding in addition to 5 damage, or each time if they let it through in combat.

I play this guy a lot in the FNM draft at my store, and most of the time people take the 5 damage. only times they don't is when they have a destroy spell ready. its generally by the third one they start thinking about putting counters on.
