They shouldn't be +1/+1 counters. They should be study counters or something.

Very janky, but could be fun and good in combo decks or something.

Jugan, the rising star under mimic vat along side any sac outlet.

Alternatively, Elite arcanist imprinted with Blessings of nature.

He's looking in the same direction as his half-brother Lighthouse Chronologist! Obviously has a place in EDH, but not much else.

This card seems to be fun to play with, but I don't think it's going to affect standard's meta in any way; it'll probably see play in kitchen tables and other casual plays. Getting five +1/+1 counters on him isn't an easy task, mainly in standard since you don't have Blessings of Nature nor Increasing Savagery which would get him to 5+ counters with a single spell, but none of those spells grant him protection from any removal. In Standard you could try and add some counters on him with other creatures that can get +1/+1 counters (heroic / evolving creatures) then Bioshift the counters onto the Sage and maybe even swing before removing the counters to get another turn, but again, too many cards / too much effort to get an extra turn without really establishing a solid board position or finding ways to protect this guy. Of course, if you can get to turn 4 or 5 and play an Ajani, Mentor of Heroes and have... (see all)

Get two Isochron Scepters, imprint one with Solidarity of Heroes and the other with Nature's Panoply. This will let you give this 6 +1/+1 counters per turn, thus giving you infinite turns.

Plenty of strategies to do this already, you say? Well the added benefit to this strategy is that you can also constantly add one then double +1/+1 counters on ALL of your other creatures every turn!

Many spike-y EDH decks run a "take extra turns" card in them as their inexorable win condition. I play The Mimeoplasm and couldn't really find one to use myself...

Then this guy.

I run 3-4 */* creatures that are based on the size of the graveyard (Consuming Aberration,Lord Of Extinction etc.) and the later game is optimal for this, but I do have mill that hits fast and hard. I'm looking at

T1 swamp, sol ring
T2 island, Buried Alive sending Lord of Extinction,Sage of Hours,Stinkweed Imp or Phenax, God of Deception if I have a spell to reanimate him
Then you wait until graveyards become fairly large, through mill or other means. Playing a 75/75 sage ought to do it.
