Anyone who's tried this in a deck finds that they're waiting for a permanent to stick or it's BALLS TO THE WALL okay. If you're gonna pay 5 to draw some cards why not make it a sure deal with Tidings?

In casual, this works extremely well with either suspend or affinity. Basically any creature in play can net you five or more cards. I use it in a suspend deck, and there it performs amazingly. Why bother with combos if you can make it more consistent?

In a right setup, it rarely fizzles, but it can and will happen on occasion. This is the case when you're either without counters or you top-deck it on an empty board. However, I'd say the card advantage it provides makes it worth this small risk. This is typically the scenario:

Riftwing Cloudskate, Errant Ephemeron or Deep-Sea Kraken are just entering the battlefield, or Spire Golem is entering for free on the sixth land. Attack if you can first to probe for kill spells, then cast this. I use Misdirection for cover because it can be cast for free (you can use Force of Will, but I don't have a playset), and if ...
