A variable pump at instant speed. I see nothing really wrong with this.

I'm having troubl seeing how Firebreathing is better - mana-per-mana, it'd be about the same cost, Enrage can use any color mana to pay the X cost, and unlike Firebreathing, Enrage is at instant speed allowing for surprise.
