Sacrifice a forest to gain 3 life, and this is an un-epic effect how. It's black and green, so getting life isn't that easy, and by sacrificing a land, it's a get out of jail free card, if you get too many lands you can just ditch a few of them to keep yourself in the game longer, and it can be played early on (being only two mana)! Yes it's a land, but you're missing the point that it gives you 3 life, it's not meant to be just spammed, it's meant to be there so that if need be you can gain 3 life, don't discredit this card for its affect being pricey, when its affect is that useful.

The effect is lackluster, the art in this printing is less atmospheric than The Dark's version, and the flavor text less poetic.

A black and green card with a fairly white effect? Sanguine Bond, I think I have found your combo for a Black-and-Green deck.

@creepycrawler Throw in a Doubling Season and you've got a pretty decent combo.

I didn't even know this was a reprint until now D:

I've had a foil one for years :P It's too bad it hasn't found a home though.

Does "Sacrifice a Forest" mean sacrificing any land, or creature, that I control that has the land type Forest, or a card that's named Forest (the basic land one). Please inform me as soon as possible, or explain it in the rulings. Thanks. =D

I could see this card used as a sideboard card in Modern in the same way that Zuran Orb is used in legacy: against burn decks.

"Dark Heart was the very first multicolored (or "gold") non-creature card."

It was also the first ever multicolored card with an opposing pair of colors. We were thrilled to see this back when The Dark came out in 1994, as it gave us hope that the Wizards would continue to print more multicolored spells other than just creatures. As we all know, our hopes were fulfilled.

Dark Heart of the Woods is an example of the Wizards getting a card right the first time. Zuran Orb came later, and was just silly overpowered. I think the "Dark Heart" is an underrated card. Be sure to check out its original art from The Dark... and also look at it side-by-side with Safe Haven. :-)
