I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet :
Back in the day, Serendib Djinn hadn't been nerfed with errata, and did what the card said : it tried to destroy one of your lands.
Hellooooooo, Consecrate Land.
That was Consecrate Land's best (and really, only) combo.
I don't know why or when exactly Wizards decided to change the ruling to "sacrifice". I'm pretty sure I still have the original newsgroup ruling that confirmed the djinn is sated by the destruction attempt, somewhere....

I have to agree with reapersaurus. I had been lead to believe that the purpose of errata is to restore a cards original functionality in the face of rules changes. This card clearly states that it destroys a land and that should be maintained as a functional aspect of the card rather than tossed aside in lieu of a completely different mechanic simply because some painfully green player, who has unfortunately been given a job he or she is incapable of, decided they prefer it that way. I have been playing since a time when both consecrate land and Serendib Djinn were being played against me in tournaments and there is nothing about this game that annoys me more than decisions made by wizards employees based nearly entirely on their own ignorance. Wizards would do well to have a specialized team of long time players to ensure that these things stop happening. Try him with Darksteel Citadel, a land with Darksteel Garrison fortifying it, Oboro, Palace in the Clouds bounced back in response, or, at the very worst, target a fetchland, then fetch in response.
